Directions for Use

• Assess the patient and determine where clothing or material must be removed.
• Position the rounded lower blade between the patient and the material being cut.
• Keep the blade angled away from the patient’s skin.
• Cut using controlled movements while monitoring the blade’s position.
• After use, clean and disinfect the shears according to your organization’s infection-control procedures.
• Inspect the blades, handle and pivot before returning the shears to service.

Cleaning and Care

• Remove visible soil promptly after use.
• Clean with a compatible detergent and disinfect according to established facility protocols.
• If sterilization is required, the shears may be autoclaved at temperatures up to 143°C (289°F).
• Thoroughly dry the shears before storage.
• Inspect regularly for corrosion, loose components, cracks, damage or reduced cutting performance.
• Replace the shears if damaged or if they no longer cut effectively.

Follow the sterilizer manufacturer’s instructions and your facility’s validated reprocessing procedure. Blue Spear should confirm whether there are limits on autoclave exposure time or the number of reprocessing cycles.
